You don't see a football match getting over in 10 minutes. Forget seeing, you don't even hear about such cases. But, the MSSA U-16 Super League yesterday witnessed just this. It's harder to believe that it involved two of the giants of inter-school football, Don Bosco (Matunga) and St Stanislaus (Bandra).
The latter were thrashed 0-6 by Don Bosco, who played their first game of the Super League. The wrecker-in-chief for Bosco's was Sajid Khan, scoring his first ever hat-trick. Merick Fernandes (2) and Raynier Fernandes added to the tally. Interestingly, the first three goals came from set-pieces in the first 10 minutes of play. Two corners with one free-kick in between early into the match had the Stanislaus boys chasing their opponents thereafter.
Ironically, it was the Bosco boys, who were more nervous of the two teams.
"We were nervous before kick off because in the last 11 years we never won our tournament opener. We finished second in the group to (Bombay) Scottish and in the League our first game was called off and we met Stanislaus. The pressure was even more because in order to retain our title we needed to win matches by big margins as Scottish have been in good form scoring loads of goals," explained Khan, who was shown the yellow card for celebrating his hat-trick by removing his jersey.
