Fresh from her success in the US Open, where she won the women's doubles title with Martina Hingis, Mirza was conferred an honorary life membership of the 82-year-old Cricket Club of India yesterday.

"If I was born a guy, I would have definitely become a cricketer. Cricket is in my blood. My husband (Shoaib Malik) is a cricketer, my father (Imran) wanted to be a cricketer, my uncle (Mirza Fayaz) was in the Hyderabad Ranji Trophy team.

I am even related to former India captain Ghulam Ahmed (Sania is his grand-niece). I feel connected to cricket," said the 28-year-old.
