Desperate times call for desperate measures. However, such operations may land you in trouble as it happened with an Indian technician who was being tried to sneak in by his German contractor inside the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on another employees' accreditation card.

The police said the official belonged to the German firm GmbH that has been contracted to provide the cables for the tensile roof at the stadium.

The technician Shyam Sundar, an electrician, was caught while trying to get inside at gate number 14 of the stadium at around 11:15 am along with his German employer.

A volunteer at the stadium confirmed that Sundar has been arrested and an FIR registered at the Lodhi Colony police station.

"They were trying to enter through gate number 14 but the alert security personnel spotted the anomaly and Sundar was stopped there and then," the volunteer told MiD DAY.

It was found that Sundar was trying to get inside on somebody else's accreditation card. He was handed over to the police and a case under section 419 IPC was lodged against him. He has been booked for impersonation, the sources said.

Sources said further investigations into the matter are on and more arrests can happen.

They said interrogation on Sundar until now suggest that due to lack of accreditation cards, the employer tried to take Sundar inside using someone else's I-card to finish the work as the Opening ceremony is due on Sunday.

Apart from Opening and Closing ceremonies, track and field and marathon, lawn balls and weight lifting event would be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Strictly following the rule book, Home Minister P Chidambaram Wednesday walked about 500 meters to reach a venue of Commonwealth Games after Delhi Police disallowed his personal security officer and car driver to accompany him for not carrying accreditation cards. The Minister, who toured the CWG venues this morning, was asked to stop at Siri Fort sports complex by the Delhi Police for security check.
Although Chidambaram had an accreditation card and his car carried the entry sticker, the accompanying security officer and the car driver did not have the documents. The officials politely told the Home Minister that he and his car can go inside the venue but the security officer and the driver would not be permitted. Chidambaram abided by the Delhi Police officials' request and got out of his car and walked nearly 500 meters to enter the venue as his staff and car remained at the parking area.

Hungry cops

Police personnel deployed at Nehru Stadium were left starving by their seniors on Wednesday when they were told to keep out their tiffin boxes.
Though the securitymen were assured that they would be provided food, nothing came of it and they had to stand guard, hungry, from 6 am till 2 PM. "We had brought our lunch along but our seniors made us throw our lunch outside the stadium claiming we will be given a special plate of food which costs Rs 350. But even after our shift was over we weren't given a single morsel," alleged a police personnel, wishing anonymity.
