Some food for thought at MSSA canteen

Thanks to Snack Shake Fast Food that runs the canteen at the football venue, kids are forced to shell out Rs 30 for a plate of batata wadas (two wadas), while a simple vegetable sandwich costs a whopping Rs 25 and cold drinks are priced at an exorbitant Rs 35. Compare this to prices at the nearby Aadhar canteen, and there is a difference of at least 30 to 40 percent in their rates.

It's no wonder then that visitors are finding the canteen expensive. "It is very difficult for players coming from middle-class families to buy anything from this canteen. MSSA should reduce prices," said a coach on the condition of anonymity.

MSSA president Fr Jude Rodrigues passed the buck to secretary Sebastian Fernandes. "We have not yet finalised the canteen contract. Sebastian must have made a stop-gap arrangement. I am not aware of the rates," Fr Rodrigues told MiD DAY yesterday.

MSSA secretary Fernandes claimed ignorance about the prices, but promised to look into the matter. "We are not aware of the pricing structure, but I'll have a word with them," he said. Canteen manager Kunal Charavarthy said MSSA were well aware of the prices. "MSSA officials know all the prices as we have signed a contract. Anyway, we have spoken to the secretary and have reduced the cost of batata vadas by Rs 5. We will also provide two bread slices with it," said Charavarthy. u00a0
