Yesterday, the Borivli side beat Bombay Scottish (Mahim) 7-6 via tie-breaker in a nail-biting semi-final. Bruno Colas gave D'Assisi an early lead (7th minute) shooting to score from outside the box. In the 24th minute, Scottish's Jay Bhavnani equalised from close range. In the second half, the Mahim outfit went ahead through Jay again (28th min), but their happiness was short-lived as Bruno headed in for 2-2 taking the match in to the tie-breaker.
In the shootout, Mandar Vasaikar, Kevin Shah, Viren Mudaliar, Manish Soundalkar and Johnson Mathews were on target for the Borivli outfit, while Bhavya Jain, Jay, Aryan, Aryan Yugpurush scored for Bombay Scottish.
This season, D'Assisi finished third in the boys U-16 MSSA Division-I league, while they were placed fourth last year. "Our boys consistently played well, but somehow a final eluded us, so it's great to make a final after five years," said D'Assisi coach Thomas Barreto.
In the other semi-final, Campion (Colaba) beat Jamnabai Narsee ICSE (Juhu) 4-3 via tie-breaker.
