Six three-year-old juveniles will face the starter in the AFS Talyarkhan Trophy, named after the famous commentator of a bygone era, also fondly known as "Bobby", a lover of cricket and horse racing, both games of glorious uncertainties.
Steppenwolf, by Dean's Kitten out of Queen Rania, caught the eye when making debut on the Derby card, finishing runner up to Dance The Dream in the B K Rattonsey Million. The Shazaan Shah-trained bay colt was seen to be covering ground in the final furlong of the race, and if he maintains that fitness, he will be a tough nut to crack, especially, as most horses show decent improvement in their second lifetime start.
There are three more in the fray who have also had the benefit of a run, Steppenwolf is unlikely to be challenged by any of them. He will, however, need to be wary of the two first timers--Grand Chieftain & Non Plus Ultra--especially the last-named who has been working well on the trial track.
