Goals from Dave Kitson and Craig Bellamy cancelled out the two sides after the regulation period of 90 minutes, which also saw Emmanuel Adebayor dismissed, before Stoke sealed it in the first-half of extra time to end City's hopes of silverware this season.

This was the third meeting between these two sides in just 13 days -- the other two matches both ending 1-1, with one of those games prompting this fifth found replay -- and the fact they had played each other so recently was indicated by how little each side was prepared to give away to the other.

In essence, both knew the other too well to really make much of an impact although City did show some attacking spirit early on.
