Sultan of Johor Cup: India juniors thrash Korea 6-1

India virtually sealed a place in the final of the U-21 Sultan of Johor Cup handing out a 6-1 thrashing to South Korea at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium yesterday.


It was India's fourth consecutive win, after beating England (2-1), Argentina (3-2) and Pakistan (4-0). India have collected 12 points and will play their last match in the preliminary stage on Saturday against Malaysia.

Amit Rohidass (7th minute), Satbir Singh (9th minute) and Talwinder Singh (31st min) scored once each before Korea pulled one back through You Seung Ju. Amon Mirash Tirkey, Ramandeep Singh and Affan Yusof then added a goal each to complete the rout for India.

Indian eves beaten

The Indian women's hockey team's World Cup dreams ended as they lost 1-2 to South Korea in the semi-final of the Asia Cup in Bukit Jalil yesterday. Ritu Rani scored the lone goal for India after the Koreans took the lead through Cheon Seul Ki (2nd minute), and then doubled it through Cheon Eun Bi (4th minute).

India stun Lebanon

India shocked Lebanon 4-1 at the Sabah Al-Salem Stadium here in the U-16 Asian Football Confederation Qualifiers. Nuruddin, Bedashor Singh (2) and Anirudh Thapa scored for India, while Lebanon scored through Ali Kharoubi.
