Chelsea captain John Terry's father was given a suspended prison sentence Tuesday for supplying cocaine to a newspaper reporter, as his judge said he was the victim of entrapment.

Chelsea captain John Terry's father was given a suspended prison sentence Tuesday for supplying cocaine to a newspaper reporter, as his judge said he was the victim of "entrapment".

Edward Terry, 56, admitted supplying the drug to an undercover journalist from the News of the World, Britain's biggest-selling newspaper, in a wine bar in Chafford Hundred, east of London, in November.

He was sentenced at nearby Basildon Crown Court to a six-month suspended jail term. Terry was also ordered to do 100 hours of community service and pay 95 pounds (140 dollars, 115 euros) costs.

"It is a very, very clear case of entrapment solely to create a newspaper story," judge Christopher Mitchell said.

John Terry skippered Chelsea to their first domestic double this season, winning the English Premier League and the FA Cup.

The former England captain is among the national team squad of players preparing for the World Cup, which kicks off in South Africa on June 11.
