Egyptian husband and wife, Ali Farag and Nour El Tayeb, made history by becoming the first married couple to win the men's and women's singles titles respectively at the 2017 US Open over the weekend.

Competing at the Philadelphia's Drexel University, the couple, who married last summer, beat higher ranked opponents to seal the first PSA World Series titles.

No. 10 Nour beat World No.1 Nour El Sherbini and World No.4 Laura Massaro en route to the final, where she beat third seed Raneem El Welily 8-11, 11-4, 5-11, 11-7, 11-5. Meanwhile, Farag dethroned defending champion and World No. 3 Mohamed ElShorbagy 12-10, 11-9, 11-8.

Nour said she was more nervous for her husband than herself. "As soon as I finished my match, I watched him and I was so nervous. It's a dream. It feels really special that both of our first World Series titles happen to be together."

"I hope it's the first of many to come together," said Farag.
