The three-day national level tournament (March 11 to 13) will see 20 teams from across the country battle for top honours. The teams will be divided in four pools of five teams each. The top two teams from each pool will qualify for the quarter-finals.

Tournament director Samarth Shetty said that this tournament holds special significance as it is the last competition before the World Ultimate Frisbee Championship to be held in London this June. Four teams from India will be participating in the London competition.

"We have eight tournaments across the country in a year. Four national tournaments - Mumbai (March), Bangalore (July), Chennai (October), Ahmedabad (January) and four other smaller events," said Shetty.

The sport holds tremendous promise, felt Apurva Kothari, the coach of Mumbai outfit, Storm Chasers.

"The best part about this sport is its gender equality. Both men and women can be a part of the same team. India participated in three World Championships so far. We used to send three teams earlier, but now we are sending four and that shows the rising popularity of the sport here," said Kothari.
