Usain Bolt has confirmed he will compete over 100 metres at the Adidas Grand Prix in New York City on June 12.
However, it's still to be revealed whether the race will be his first appearance on the inaugural Diamond League circuit which begins in Doha on May 14. Before New York there are three other meetings in Shanghai (May 23), Oslo (June 4) and Rome (June 10). The 23-year-old Jamaican's appearance in NY will be his first in the USA since he set his first WR at the same meeting in 2008. He has gone on to win the 100m and 200m in new world-record times at the Olympics and World Championships since.
"New York was the site of my first world record, the track is lightning fast and the fans, well, they sat through an entire thunderstorm in 2008 just to watch the 100m. So I know they appreciate speed. I am looking forward to returning to the Big Apple in June," said Bolt, who is expected to open his 2010 campaign with a traditional 400m race in Kingston on February 13.
