The Indian Weightliftingu00a0 Federation (IWF) is on a hat-trick but unfortunately, the 'trick won't be something to boast about. The IWF is all set to be banned for a third time (having previously been banned in 2004 and 2006) by the International Weightlifting Federation for doping offences.
After, it was learnt recently that Shailaja Pujari and Vicky Batta had failed dope tests by the National Anti-Doping Agency and World Anti-Doping Agency respectively and junior lifter Priyadarshini tested positive in out of competition tests in Pune, yesterday it emerged that as many as six lifters had failed dope tests conducted last month. Male lifters Rajesh Kumar, Harbhajan Singh and a female lifter Vijaylaxmi Devi have joined the infamous list. The international body needs just three lifters to fail a dope test in order to ban a national federation for up to two years. With six culprits, Indian weightlifting could might as well bid adieu to New Delhi's 2010 Commonwealth Games.
