Western Railway clinches Gold Cup hockey title

Western Railway, Mumbai registered a 3-1 win over Punjab National Bank (PNB), Delhi to win the 12th PMC Bank-Guru Tegh Bahadur All India Gold Cup Hockey Championship at MHAL-Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate yesterday.

Western Railway, Mumbai registered a 3-1 win over Punjab National Bank (PNB), Delhi to win the 12th PMC Bank-Guru Tegh Bahadur All India Gold Cup Hockey Championship at MHAL-Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate yesterday.

PNB snatched the lead through Arjun Antil in the 20th minute before Western replied back with three goals through Malak Singh (32nd minute), Rajan Kandulina (40th minute) and Ayyappa (53rd minute) to clinch the top honours.

Western Railway received a cash prize of R 2 lakhs from Waryam Singh, chairman of PMC Bank, while PNB received Rs 1 lakh for their second place finish.
