India's newly reappointed doubles badminton coach Mathias Boe and doubles star Satwiksairaj Rankireddy were made honorary life members of Goregaon Sports Club (GSC) last week. GSC is where Shetty learnt the nuances of the sport as part of the Uday Pawar Badminton Academy (UPBA) before going on to achieve international success.
President Vinay Jain welcomed the badminton stalwarts to the GSC family. "I have been training here for almost six years on my visits to Mumbai. GSC has always made me feel welcome and it has been like a second home to me. When I was playing competitive badminton, Chirag was a youngster at the UPBA academy. I used to enjoy coming here and playing with him as well as other youngsters at the academy," said Boe.
