Sultan Suleiman trained by Altaf Hussain, and owned by racing's identical twins Dinsha and Munchi Shroff in partnership with Mrs Aban N Chothia & Saleem Fazelbhoy, posted a stylish victory in the Aziz H Ahmedbhoy Trophy, the feature event of the Friday afternoon card. Trevor Patel, who rode Sultan Suleiman, also drove the Bezan Chenoy-trained Aegon to a fluent victory in the upper division of the Quest For Cash Plate, thereby scoring a brace.

However, jockey P S Chouhan overshadowed Trevor's performance by booting home three winners. His successes included the Sir Charles Forbes Trophy, in which he rode debut-maker Spinoza, trained by Pesi Shroff. The Air Support - Showin' Off three-year-old bay colt was backed to the exclusion of his seven rivals, and justified the faith of his backers by a three-length victory over Supreme Angel (Neeraj Rawal up).

Pesi Shroff had earlier led in another winner in Alluring Silver which was also ridden by Chouhan. Alluring Silver, sporting race club chairman Zavaray Poonawalla's silks, outclassed opposition to win the class III, Samuel Nathan Plate. Chouhan's final win came astride the Rehanullah Khan-trained Wayin, owned by Ms Rashmee A Amarsey, which was the medium of a sweet gamble in the last race of the day that Chouhan pulled off without giving any anxious moments to those who risked their money.

Pesi Shroff's double was matched by only one other trainer, Sanjay Kolse, who sent out two winners on the card: Sergio, who won the lower division of the Pennywise Plate in the hands of A Sandesh; and Ms Boss, on whom jockey Neeraj Rawal got a chance ride in the lower division of the Quest For Cash Plate after Sandesh was indisposed, and could not ride. Interestingly, Kolse's both winners carried the silks of owner Geoffrey Nagpal, former chairman of stewards of the race club.
