The bull, modernised
The beloved bull of the Hindu tradition, Nandi, finds new avatars in the hands of Mumbai-based sculptor Ratan Krishna Saha. The bull stars as soldier, a dancer and a soccer player, while still retaining its age-old aesthetic. Casting his hero in copper, brass and steel, Saha comments on woman-power, love, valour and materialism.
Saha says he has been fascinated by the powerful and enduring metaphor of the bull, and has innovated with other materials such as bangles and anklets. The show, titled Eternal Icon, has 22 bull sculptures and three installations, including the 14 ft high Divine Steps which has 108 Nandis. Check it out, and we are sure you will have your own take on this icon.
