Something to die for?

Almost 10 years back, a 16-year-old wanted to create music which would hit the spot. With an album, the dream is finally coming true. But will it?

Whenu00a0he was 16, Alexander the Great was appointed the regent of Macedonia and was crushing the Maedi insurgence. Modern Public School, Barakhamba, student Rohan Solomon at 16 didn't want to launch a military campaign and conquer the world, but his youthful dreams were almost the same. Like any musically inclined teenager, he created Cyanide -- an alternative rock band. The mission -- to create music to die for.

Sugar and Spice
Many must have discarded the endeavour as boyish enthusiasm and we are sure they must have met the same fate of Alexander's adversaries. But 10 years down the line, Rohan isu00a0 finally coming up with his album called Sugarcoated.

Forever young
"The album covers the extremely long journey that the band has been through," says Solomon. "The songs of the album are 10 years old and some which we practically wrote in the studio," he adds. But some of the songs were written when the man was 16, when angst and confusion dominated his mind space. Was it simply the emotional connect to those sounds that pushed him to include in an album he is releasing at in his mid-20s? "Well, they do talk about partying, love and money but then again the vocabulary has been refined and the thought process has evolved," defends Solomon.

Satisfied with that answer? Perhaps not, but then again the audience is the ultimate judge. So only time will tell. But Sugarcoated is not only about carrying forwards your childhood issues to your audience. It talks about environmental issues. "Yes, it does focus on the issue of environment," says Solomon. And since the band is from Delhi, there is something else which irks them. "Corruption. We might come up with a song on corruption. It is a burning topic and not something we can close our eyes too," he says.

To try or not to try
So finally, the ultimate question -- should one buy Sugarcoated? If you have followed the band, certainly yes. If you are someone who switches on the TV and doesn't flip the channel when they were contestants on some music channel. Others should wait till their music is available on their website to download before they bring the hard copy home.u00a0But do not forget Alexander the Great we mentioned in the beginning. The man conquered almost half the civilsed world before he died. Solomon is only 26.

The party is on us
