Your cut-and-keep guide to a boozy night out on the final stretch of JP Road that has a watering hole at every 100 metres

WTF!
An actor had once described WTF! to us as a place that makes her feel like she's in a wrap party for a film that she wasn't part of. It's a fair assessment, because on the night we visit, we find a friend who is celebrating the end of a web series he has directed. His entire crew has occupied two tables in a corner of the pub's open-air section. They typify the patronage at WTF!, which, like the actor implied, is JP Road's go-to pub for the area's filmy folk.

The Treesome Cafe
The café shares a wall with WTF!, but is half as crowded as its neighbour on any given night, including the Friday on which we went pub crawling. In fact, the staff members might well outnumber the patrons; the upside being that our pint arrives quickly, as does our bill. So, go there if you are with a large group of friends, who want a table easily, or with a date who prefers a quiet evening.

Woodcon
Whatever you do, don't take your date to Woodcon, though, which is the next pub down that road. Unless, that is, he or she fits in at a dive bar, which is exactly what Woodcon is. The beer is cheap and the service is no-nonsense. It's also a useful place for you to pick up booze from, if you're going to a party and wine shops have shut already. In fact, even as we leave, we spot customers waiting for 'anna' to parcel their whisky.

The House
The pub is named so for a reason. It was once a bungalow, one of many that had come up on this stretch of road that overlooks the sea. Most of these residential properties have now found other uses. This one is a watering hole that is becoming the second option for the filmy junta and alternative for families when WTF! is bursting at the seams.

KIL Sports Cafe
This one is a smoky pub that's more of a hookah bar than drinking den. We head to the upper level and find an occupied pool table at the centre. The red décor, worn-out sofas and dim lighting give it a dingy feel. We sit at a table by the bar even as one of the pool players pots the cue ball, committing a foul. The staff is friendly and attentive. But when we ask for the bill, they say that they can only give us a hand-written one. Hmm.

Jamjar Diner
We have been to Jamjar before, and it has never disappointed. The place has a wider selection of brews than all the other stops on the list. The food, too, goes beyond usual pub fare to offer stuff such as Quinoa Breakfast Burrito Bowl. Jamjar is a different place depending on the time of the day. When it's lunchtime, it's less crowded and more conversation-friendly, with the playlist featuring soft retro classics. But at night, it turns into a party hotspot where people are dressed up to the nines, shaking a leg to more contemporary and up-tempo music.

Time 9 am to 1 am at 7A and B, Aram Nagar 2, behind Washing Bay.
