When a person is guilty of a crime like travelling without a ticket on a local train, anyone who is in a uniform, is to be feared. And that is exactly the psychology that Mishal Shabbir George took advantage of. Till last week that is.

On September 29, Bandra railway police arrested an English-speaking fraudulent TC named Mishal Shabbir George who was allegedly ‘on duty’ at Bandra railway station.

On September 20, George fooled Akshay Shah, a 23-year-old who had crossed the tracks and hopped on to platform number one, as he had taken a fast train from Andheri by mistake.

The 23-year-old fake TC pointed out Shah’s faults and even took his mobile phone, according to the Bandra railway police. Shah, a third-year BA student, was on his way to buy stationary material at his father’s shop at Santacruz.

George alleged that his seniors had spotted Shah crossing the tracks on the CCTV camera. “I got scared, as I didn’t have tickets. He said that I would have to pay a fine of Rs 1,450. After a lot of back and forth, he agreed on Rs 800,” adds Shah.

“When I refused to call my parents, he asked for my cell phone. He told me that he would show it to my seniors, and advised me to flee from the scene, promising to manage the scene,” said Shah.

George even told him that if his seniors saw him on CCTV again, they would ask for more money. “I waited on the platform for 10 minutes, and started to have my doubts when he didn’t return. He spoke in fluent English and didn’t fit the character of a TC.

I went and enquired with the station police staff, who asked me to lodge a complaint with the railway police,” said Shah. The accused was finally nabbed this week. “George will be produced in court on Tuesday. He has been sent to police custody till the first week of October,” said Pradip Padavi, inspector, GRP, Bandra. u00a0
