MMR also reports more than 1,000 cases; state’s cases stay below 3,000

Cases of COVID-19 in the city have been increasing marginally for the past two weeks. On Sunday, the cases jumped to 570, after 41,044 tests were conducted, with the test positivity rate of 1.39 per cent. This is the highest number of cases in the past 81 days. The last time the city witnessed such high cases was on July 14 at 635 cases. The deaths were low on Sunday at 3.

The effects of reopening are beginning to show. In September, the daily average of cases was 433. On September 29, there were 527 cases with test positivity rate of 1.38 per cent. Though the cases are high, the mortality rate is low. All three deceased were above 60 years of age with comorbidities. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 564 people recovered and were discharged on Sunday. The city’s doubling rate was 1,187 days.

As per the state report, 1,090 cases were reported in the MMR including cases from Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Thane city reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR with 92 new cases. It was followed by Kalyan Dombivli with 70 and Navi Mumbai with 67 cases. Raigad and Panvel registered 64 and 58 cases. Mira Bhayandar reported 38 cases and one death. No other area reported deaths besides Mumbai.
Other parts of the state saw a marginal drop as cases stayed below the 3,000 mark on Sunday. As per the state health department report, 2,692 cases were reported. The state’s COVID-19 fatalities also saw a marginal drop as 41 deaths were reported.
The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 2,716 people recovered and got discharged on Sunday. Currently the state has 35,888 active cases.
