In the circular sent to jurisdictional officers, he said that it has been observed police officers appearing in uniform or civil dress along with anti-social elements and rowdies to be photographed or filmed, which is then telecast or displayed publicly. Ramesh said, "This will not be permitted and will be dealt with seriously in future."

This is the first circular that Ramesh has issued after he assumed charge as DG&IGP, which came after home minister R Ashok assured support in the legislative council in this regard.

Ramesh also made it mandatory for commissioners, IGPs and SP to visit their jurisdictional police stations on a regular basis to inspect criminal investigations. Other police officials like Additional SP and Deputy SP/Assistant Commissioner of Police will be instructed to do likewise, he detailed in the memo.

u00a0"This would not only help expedite investigations, but also enforce a sense of discipline and ensure commitment prevails among the officers, he said. He added that all this is being done in a move to improve the image of the state police.
