Ishaan Khattar and Janhvi Kapoor
With only days to go before Dhadak hits screens, director Shashank Khaitan finds himself shouldering the responsibility of having to match up to his source material, the Marathi hit, Sairat (2016).
Ever since the trailer of the Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor starrer launched, netizens have had a field day trolling the adaptation of Nagraj Manjule's much loved film. Quiz him on the constant comparisons, and he says, "The negativity isn't unexpected, but I am nullifying it with my positivity. Instead of indulging in what's wrong, I am focusing on the fact that we got the opportunity to make this movie. These comparisons can't shake me."

Twitterati came down heavily on his recreated version of Zingaat too. Responding to criticism that the track loses its rustic charm on his glossy canvas, Khaitan retorts, "I set the film in Udaipur, and it looks as royal as that. It's correctly picturised keeping in mind the story we have. But it's easy to irk people. Had I simply used the original song, they would have had a problem with that as well. Since it's an official adaptation, we've tried to include all the good elements of Sairat."

Considering it marks the debut of Kapoor, the film has reignited the nepotism controversy in Bollywood. However, he says he found his Parthavi in her. "We were not looking at it as a launch pad for Jahnvi. From the first day, they were the characters I wanted them to be. I never had to handhold Ishaan or Jahnvi."
