Ready to experiment: Neel

A M Neel, an upcoming music director, has done noteworthy composition for more than seven films in Sandalwood. Neel learnt Hindustani classical music from vidhwan Ashwini Ghosh of Gwalior gharana. He has also worked with musicians like Stefan and Mano Murthy. Elayya Madesh from Tabbali and Manaseega Maathanne from Right Aadre are some of his well-known songs.

Many music directors are using only popular and noisy tunes...
Yes, usually tunes will be repeating according to listeners' tastes, but the soul of the tune must be in the lyrics. It is up to the singer to take these lyrics and convert it into a song with the right tune.

Are you ready to escape from that trend?
I have tried to experiment with songs like Arere Eno Agutide in the film Venki. I am also making an album called Saniha for which two videos have been shot. There is one romantic song, one duet song, and one sombre song in this album.

What are your thoughts on the lyrics that are being used in songs today?
Many lyricists use colloquial and street language according to sequences. That works depending on the context of the song.u00a0 Jayanth Kaikini uses conversational Kannada without compromising on quality.

Your favourite music director...
Rajan Nagendra is a wonderful music composer as he gives more importance to lyrics and melody.

Does Sandalwood need Bollywood singers?
I believe in Bollywood singers because we need new voices in Sandalwood. Singers like KK, Aatif and Kunal Ganjawala are versatile artsites. They have the ability to understand the mood of the song. So I would want to rope them into my projects.
