Howie Dorough is among the first members of the band from Orlando, Florida. Interestingly, he met fellow band member and friend AJ McLean through a common vocal coach at a Latin carnival in 1989. The band was formed by Lou Pearlman, who along with Dorough, selected AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, Nick Carter, and Kevin Richardson, and the rest is history. Apart from the band, he has also worked as a producer for singer/songwriter George Nozuka and Katelyn Tarver, and even worked on a solo album called 'Back To Me', which he released in 2011. Apart from singing and music, he has also done some acting, some of the most notable being in the television series, 'Sabrina, the Teenage Witch' in one episode called, 'The Big Head' as an egotistic rock star named Strum.
AJ McLean is an American singer and dancer, who is member of the band that is a favourite among most 90s kids. The seeds for the band may have been laid when Dorough met McLean, who was only 11 years old at the time, and quickly became friends. In 1992, when an advertisement for placed in the newspaper looking for young men between 16 – 19 years, to form a boy band, he auditioned even though he was only 14 at the time. However, he got selected in the group, which was later joined by Nick Carter, Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson. Over the years, he has worked on many different kinds of projects including two solo albums called, ‘Have It All’ and ‘Sex and Bodies’. Photo Courtesy: AFP
Apart from Howie Dorough and AJ McLean, Brian Littrell is one of the other members of the popular American boy band. Apart from being a part of the Backstreet Boys, he is also a contemporary Christian music artist. He is also the cousin of fellow band member, Kevin Richardson. In 2005, he also released a solo album called Welcome Home. Photo Courtesy: AFP
Littrell joined the band with his cousin Kevin Richardson, both of whom are now in the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame. In 1999, Richardson was named as the People's Magazine's Sexiest Pop Star. In 2006, Richardson left the group to pursue other projects and start a family. However, he rejoined the band in late 2008. Apart from being a singer, he is also a composer and model, and has been a model for Versace, among others. Photo Courtesy: AFP
Nick Carter is the youngest member of the Backstreet Boys. He joined them when he was only 12 years old. While he had already performed on stage and appeared in various commercials, he chose to join the new boy band Backstreet Boys instead of signing a 50,000 dollar contract with the Mickey Mouse Club.
