Various theatre troupes from around the city will be staging Kannada plays at Ranga Shankara
Throughout this week, theatre lovers will be treated to an array of plays encompassing different genres such as comedy, romance and drama. We bring a round up of all those plays that are in store for you.

A modern day feminist play, which borders on the abuse of women in villages, but focuses on how they can empower themselves by becoming financially independent. The protagonist, Sivamma, or Sivi as the villagers call her, embarks on a revolutionary mission aiming at developing the village she calls her home, providing self-employment to women and putting them on par with men.

Hayavadana
The man with the face of a horse Hayavadana is a contemporary play that retains all the elements of the past and is fittingly modern. The play, written by Girish Karnad revolves around themes of love, sexuality while maintaining a sense of innocence. Hayavadana is the unwitting spawn of a princess who was in love with and consequently impregnated by a stallion.

Heegondu Premaprasanga
This is a romantic comedy that revolves around the lives of an author and his friend. The author's books are love centric and books on how to attain and maintain relationships between lovers. Ironically, the author's love life seems to be in doldrums but his friend on the other hand derives success from the advice meted out in his books.

Dr B V Rajaram present to you this Kannada play, which is based on Narasimhaswamy's poems. The play, which explores the rural life is journey through the various phases of the poet's life. A rural bangle seller, Balegara Channayya narrates the story of the poet through a conversation with the poet's granddaughter.
