Wouldn't it be simply awesome if that ceramic plate in your glass cabinet or one of your drawing room tiles were original works of art? No really! And bearing the signature of one of the best-known ceramic painters of the world at that? If we have aroused your curiosity, then read on

u00a0Maneol Filipe Pereira started painting on ceramic when he was barely a teenager - inspired by his grandmother's extraordinary treasure trove of porcelain collectibles. Having lived in Brazil (where he was born), Venezuela (where he grew up) and now Portugal, Pereira's work has been influenced by multiple cultures over time.

u00a0"I love the medium for its lustre," Pereira tells us in an emailed interview from Portugal. His works, primarily based on glazing colours, are on display at Gallery Art and Soul in Worli, from Tuesday.

"While flower motifs take only 10 minutes to complete, animals and birds take two to three hours. And portraits takeeven more time and work," he explains.

The Portuguese-speaking globetrotting artist says he is looking forward to his India visit and hopes he can catch a few dance performances. "Indian culture is so vast. I would love to see different dance forms and maybe a few live performances," he says.

For Mumbai's art lovers however, the great news is that Pereira will conduct live demonstrations every day during the exhibition. Maybe that arty plate or the million-dollar floor tile won't be a pipe dream any more!
