Breaching the fortress
The Mumbai branch of the Youth Hostel Association Of India is organising a trek to the Raigad fort. Located at 2,700 feet above sea level, this hill fortress is situated in the modern day Raigad district. Maratha king Shivaji made the fort his capital in 1674. There are approximately 1400-1450 steps leading to the fort, but one can opt for a ropeway as well. A registration amount of Rs 400 will have to be paid along with Rs 750 for trekking-related expenses.

Can't let this pass
It may not be as pretty as it is during the monsoon, and winter nip almost non-existent, but before the summer heat sets, do give this trek a try. On Monday, V Adventure, a company that conducts adventure and nature activities is organising a trek to the Umberkhind Pass. Here, you can explore the beauty of the Sahyadri range while enjoying a rigorous walk.
