The Good Maharaja Movie Poster
Few know about the role that India had to play in World War II. Well we need not worry for longer, because Indian Director Vikash Verma, known for the First-Indo Polish Venture, âNo Means No' has taken the responsibility on his shoulders to make known the untold story of the Maharaja of Nawanagar (now known as Jamnagar in Gujarat)
Titled as âThe Good Maharaja' and slated for a near Christmas 2022 release, the film is the second Indo-Polish co-production venture based on a true story about the lion-hearted Indian Maharaja Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja (nicknamed as Jam Saheb) who during this war came as a fatherly figure for around 1000 Polish children and provided them shelter from the squalid orphanage.
According to Reports from the production team of âThe Good Maharaja', the Principal photography of the film commenced on 21st February, 2020, with the scenes of the film being shot in 3 languages: Hindi, English and Polish, but alas, because of the much dreaded Pandemic of Covid-19, the schedule was stalled after a mere 2 days and remains in the same state till now. "We are waiting for the borders to open, and for the global administration of the vaccine, so that we can resume our work without any hinderance" Said a very enthusiastic Vikash Verma, when asked about the films next schedule.

"Cinema shapes our society and highlights the culture too." Vikash Verma spoke about many initial controversies that arose regarding the film, The Good Maharaja, but he will take the blessings of Maharaja Digvijaysaheb's family. Vikash Said "I am sure that Maharaja Digvijay Saheb's family will not take any objection" Vikash said that this film's inception was in 2016, but was put on hold for his ambitious Indo- Polish project, No Means No. And about the cast he said that "All the actors for The Good Maharaja were chosen with a very specific brief which is important for a film which wants to stay true to the period that it is set in."
As the reports go, Sanjay Dutt will be playing the Maharaja and we can all agree that he is perfect for the part as he very well fits the role of the grand and magnanimous Maharaja Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja. "He has that aura and power in his voice to bring to life his character. " Said Vikash Verma.
The upcoming hero, Dhruv Verma known for his intense action sequences from No Means No, will be playing the role of a soldier and sniper from World War II. Interviews with other members from the production had someone saying "His intensity as an actor is what makes him fit the role."
According to sources, Dhruv has taken add-on trainings with the guns used in the WWII: like M1 Carbine and Enfield M1917 rifles; Springfield M1903 with edged bayonets; Colt pistols; Browning M1917A1 heavy machine guns; Thompson M1A1 submachine gun to really get into the skin of this character.
Truly, this will be a cinematic experience that India has never seen before.
