Official figures have revealed that mobile and online flirting services are seeing a rapid boom. The sales of "virtual gifts" such as a virtual kiss have rocketed.
"As a regulator, we welcome innovation in the market and very much want consumers to enjoy fun new services with the reassurance that there is a regulator working with industry to prevent consumer harm," the BBC quoted Paul Whiteing, chief executive of Phonepayplus, as saying.
Nearly 63 pc men in the age group of 18 to 34 years were more likely to use the premium rate flirting services.
