The app is an all-in-one platform for music enthusiasts, artistes and clubs
Mumbai ka nightlife nahi dekha toh kya dekha?' Somehow, the city which is known for âworkaholics', is also known for its âparty animals'. But with a new club popping up every other day, how does anyone keep track of the most happening places?
Deciding your go-to party place depends on a lot of factors including the vibe of the club, if it is frequented by people in the same age group as yours, the food, music genre and most importantly - the artistes who perform. It can be trial and error. But a recently launched mobile app promises to track your jam for the night. The features had us wondering if the hassle to find the right party for the weekend had finally ended.
Azzir, which launched on August 3, is an app specially designed to answer one question. "Where's my party tonight?" say co-founders Rahul Kothari and Atit Agarwal. Before ringing the founders, we decided to run a quick test drive of the app. After a quick sign up, we were diverted to the home screen. It was divided into four sections namely clubs in spotlight, clubs in the vicinity, artistes in spotlight and upcoming events in the city.
The app also recommends some of the hottest clubs and artistes for the night (right) Filter your options as per travel convenience, preferred genre of music and mood
The tabs at the bottom read club, artistes, events and profile. We clicked on the club tab to browsed a list of clubs near Grant Road. On the top left corner of the screen, there is an option to search clubs by city. Alongside the search bar is another option that lets users narrow their search down to a particular region in the city. The listing on the app screen is a curation of popular clubs mainly playing commercial songs, Bollywood, or EDM. But what if one preferred soft music? To this end, the app has a filter option below the name of the city on the top right. Here, you could find out details such as the genre of the music - from retro, jazz, house, rock pop, hip-hop and EDM to Bollywood and commercial - if the club/restaurant permits stags, has provisions for sheesha, serves vegetarian or non- vegetarian food, and whether it's kid/ family friendly. If you're looking to sit back and just enjoy live music, you can filter the list further.
Next, we explored the artiste tab, wherein users can locate their favourite artistes, and see where they're playing on the night. In case they wish to go to a particular club but are not familiar with the artistes, a link to the artiste's Instagram or YouTube is also provided. Furthermore, after selecting the location, you are provided with a contact number of the person in charge, and a map to the location.
"We've built the app such that you don't need to open any other app for information about the artiste, the location of the restaurant, or for other details you may require," Kothari and Agarwal tell us. They further inform us that this app is a work of five co-founders including Binny Dhadwal, Gagandeep Singh, and D J Shiva. "We [Agarwal and Kothari] are always on the move for business-related work. This idea was a result of the lack of information we felt when it comes to planning one's night," Agarwal adds, "Currently, the app works across nine cities, with access to more than 2,000 clubs and restaurants. It is beneficial to budding artistes, music enthusiasts and even the clubs, who might be in search of new talents."
"Three weeks since the launch, we have had more than 36,000 subscribers from across India," Kothari beams, and adds, "We're really happy with the response, and are currently working towards taking the app abroad."
It was a thumbs up from us for the app, which really comes handy, especially if you're in a new vicinity and wish to explore while avoiding disappointment. It is a fair round up of music genres and is definitely a boon for underrated artistes. However, we wish to see a direct reservation option on the app in the near future, which could also reveal an approximate entry cost.
