A Pune-based law student has created a podcast that touches on topics including philosophy, current affairs and history

In episode 76, Nakade speaks to rap group Tadpatri Talkies about the concepts of poverty porn, hip-hop and satire

How did money come to be? What are the origins of the age-old concept of rebellion? How relevant are Noam Chomsky's notions of media today? These are just a few of the questions that the podcast Deep Fried Neurons tackles each month. What began as a storytelling podcast in 2018 soon morphed into a series that takes on one fascinating argument after another, often centred around topics in the fields of history, current affairs and philosophy, served with a side of observant commentary by the host, law student Anuj Nakade.

Anuj Nakade

"I was working for a company in 2018, and had the idea of curating an art show for them with memes in it. We were exploring a part of Internet culture that numbs people to shocking information. The Internet has changed the circulation of information, and that inspired the birth of the name Deep Fried Neurons. I wanted to explore a space to discuss stories that would push people's horizons of thinking into a direction that was unconventional or made people recognise why the shock value of things is reducing," says Nakade. While some episodes extend upto 30 minutes, the in-depth explorations clock about an hour's worth of content.

The podcast has an eye for detail, and owing to the Punekar's background in law, one can tell that research has gone into presenting the ideas in a comprehensive way. While we'd like to say that the episodes are easy on the ears, this isn't the case for every episode. Some may need a bit of additional reading. But what we can say is that the ideas are fresh, and not often explored by most other podcasts.
