The Meghwadi Police on Monday booked the son and daughter of a former constable for abetment of suicide after the 21-year-old daughter of a BMC employee allegedly committed suicide on Sunday in Partabnagar, Jogeshwari East. The police said the woman had left a suicide note for her father telling him that the evidence against the accused was in her mobile phone. The police have arrested the accused.
The deceased's father told the police, "After my wife passed away and son got married, I was living with my daughter who worked as an attendant at the COVID vaccination Centre in Andheri." On Sunday night, when he got home and his daughter did not answer the door, he peeped through the window and saw her hanging. He raised an alarm and his neighbours helped rush her to the hospital where she was declared dead.
The police said that when they searched the house, they found a suicide note in which the woman named Nikhil Chavan and his sister Akshaya, whose father is a constable, as her harassers. She stated that her boyfriend Nikhil had left her and that her mobile phone contained all the evidence against him. The police officer further said that the deceased had hired Nikhil to paint her house a couple of years back. She never told her father about the relationship. She stated that she could not bear the fact that he was leaving her, the officer said.
During investigation, it was found that Akshaya hated the victim and did not want her brother to marry her. The accused's father died recently after retiring four years ago. "We have arrested Nikhil on charges of abetment to suicide," said Senior Police Inspector Sanjiv Pimple from Meghwadi Police station. Akshaya has not been arrested yet, he added.
