104 Mumbai cops Covid-19 positive in 24 hours

According to the data released on Friday, 93 police personnel were COVID-19 positive in a day, while the number on Saturday increased to 104

The Mumbai police is facing the wrath of the Coronavirus. According to sources, 104 policemen have been found Covid-19 positive in the last 24 hours. Fortunately, among them, only one patient is in serious condition, and has been admitted to the ICU. More than 12 officers, across ranks, are on sick live. According to the data released on Friday, 93 police personnel were Covid-19 positive in a day, while the number on Saturday increased to 104.

There are 85 policemen who have been infected for the first time, and 15 policemen who have got it for the second time around. Among the policemen found positive, there are seven who have taken the first dose of the vaccine, while 49 who have taken both the doses. There are 496 actively positive patients in the Mumbai Police, out of which 100 are in hospital, 64 are at Covid-care centers and 332 people are in home isolation.

Joint CP Law and Order Vishwas Nangre Patil, Additional CP Dilip Sawant, Sandeep Karnik and Satyanarayan Choudhary are among the officers who are on sick live. So are DCP Hari Balaji, Geeta Chavan, Shivaji Rathod, Somnath Gharge, Datta Nalawade, Prakash Jadhav, Nitin Pawar and Sunil Bhardwaj.

A Mumbai Police official told mid-day that four Covid centres were built in Mumbai for the policemen, but after the second wave, these were shut down. "A correspondence has been made with the BMC for the resumption of these centres due to the increasing number of patients in the police."

A PSI from Deonar police station has died because of Covid-19, even though he was asymptomatic; he only developed symptoms on the day he died. PSI Rau Redekar, 57, posted at Deonar police station, suddenly started experiencing body pain on Friday afternoon, and was admitted to MGM Hospital in Vashi. He died during treatment at 9.30 pm.
