The chargesheet to be filed against Mohammad Ajmal Qasab and the other 26/11 accused in the court today is expected to point, for the first time, towards the involvement of the Pakistani ISI and Army officers in the Mumbai terror attacks. While it is believed that names of Pakistani officers have come up during interrogation of two LeT terrorists, they have not been mentioned as the accused in the attacks. However, the chargesheet does point towards their role in the 26/11 conspiracy.u00a0

A senior Mumbai police official said the ISI-26/11 link came to light after it became apparent that the spots that became terrorist targets during the Mumbai attacks had been marked in maps drawn by LeT terrorist Fahim Ansari in December 2007. The UP police had arrested Ansari in February 2008 for an attack on the CRPF camp in Rampur. The Mumbai police took him into custody after the 26/11 attacks, when he revealed that the seized maps had been prepared on the orders of Sabahuddin Ahmed, a native of Bihar, who was also arrested for the CRPF attacks, and was later taken into custody by the Mumbai Crime Branch for his role in 26/11 attacks.
Ahmed has been named as an arrested accused in the chargeu00a0 sheet. In his in his 40-page
confession, Sabahuddin has revealed that he met a senior Pakistani officer named Colonel Kayani in 2002.
Pak army chief?According to Sabahuddin's lawyer Ejaz Naqvi, the man Sabahuddin has referred to is General Parvez Ashfaq Kayani, the current Pakistan Army chief, who also served as the ISI chief from October 2004 to October 2007.
Kayani was the director general of military operations in 2002. Kayani is a conspirator in the 26/11 attacks, as he had directed Sabahuddin to undertake a recce of terror targets in Mumbai. These orders were then conveyed by Sabahuddin to Fahim. If these two are arrested for conspiracy and held for making maps, Kayani should be considered the main conspirator.
