Over 100 activists today staged a protest and pelted stones at the residence of Anjali Waghmare, appointed by a special court to represent arrested Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab of Mumbai attacks, at Warli Camp area of the city, police said.

Waghmare was unhurt in the attack and police resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse the mob. The situation was brought under control.

"They seem to be upset against Waghmare, who is representing Kasab. They were shouting slogans against her," said Joint Police Commissioner K L Prasad (Law and Order) told PTI.

He said the activists may either belong to Shiv Sena or Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

On March 23, Kasab, who had earlier sought consular access from Pakistan, had requested the court to provide a lawyer at the expense of the state, in the absence of a response from Islamabad.

Following the request, the court had prepared a panel of 17 lawyers. Of the 17 advocates, Waghmare's name was approved by the judge to appear for Kasab, a resident of Faridkot in Pakistan.
