Fahim Ansari, the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative arrested for his alleged role in the recent Mumbai terror attacks, told the court yesterday that three foreigners had interrogated him in Crime Branch custody.
Ansari was produced before the 37th court along with co-accused Sabbauddin Ahmed and the duo was remanded to further police custody till February 17.
Ansari's lawyer Ejaz Naqvi had moved an application on Tuesday before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate seeking to bar the FBI from investigating Ansari, saying it was against the law. Naqvi had stated that under Indian law there were no provisions to allow a foreign agency to interrogate any accused.
He pointed out that since the FBI is non-concerned with the investigations, it is a violation of the law if the Crime Branch gives them access to interrogate Ansari. The FBI has interacted with top Crime Branch officers to exchange information on the 26/11 attacks in a bid to prevent copycat attacks in the US.
The court has issued a notice to the Crime Branch seeking a reply to be filed on February 9.
Ansari and Sabauddin, who were arrested from Uttar Pradesh, have been accused of conspiring with the terrorists of the November 26 attacks. The police have said the duo had done a recee of the targets, made maps and supplied them to the LeT mastermind in Pakistan.
Naqvi also moved an application before the court stating misconduct by Crime Branch officialsu00a0for not allowing him to meet Ansari even after the court's permission.
