No security along coast, despite Jehadi threat

On July 6, MiD DAY carried a story 'Jehadis plan to gatecrash Goa Beach Party', which highlighted an Intelligence report that warned of a Jehadi terror strike on the coastal front, including the sensitive coastal stretch in Raigadh district Shekhadi, Janjira and Dighy.

A week later, MiD DAY discovered that the coastal area remains as exposed.

A 150-km stretch on the western coast that was in particular classified 'most sensitive' after it was used as the entry point to smuggle RDX and ammunition during the 1993 blasts.

Till date there is only one police check-post at Rev Danda on the said stretch, which is manned by just four constables.


Surprisingly, this reporter observed that only one constable among the four was armed with an ancient .303 rifle.

Post 26/11, the government had promised new patrol boats. "Ideally, six officers, two from each unit, should be on duty.

However, there are no security officers along the coast," said Ramesh Tandel, a village supervisor of Agardanda, Raigad district.

Villagers alleged that a money making racket was underway, but refused to elaborate.
