Food at railway stalls may now be cheaper |
Rameshwar Prasad Gupta, a members of the PSC, said, "We made few points regarding security at railway stations and also on eateries available. Many passengers who eat at the railway station are 'aam janata' and so we have decided to provide foods for their convenience." The five-member team from Railway Board visited Mumbai last month.
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Development (IRCTC) has already reduced prices of few items and is also considering other suggestions made by the committee. Rajiv Dutt Sharma, Group General Manager, IRCTC said, "We have reduced prices of few items sold on railway stations. The price of a Thali has been reduced to Rs 60 at Mumbai Central station which was earlier sold at Rs 120."
The committee has also made available the 'janata khana' for the passengers. Janata Khana includes will roti, vegetable and pickle for just Rs 10. "Railway is for common public and we have to keep that in mind," Gupta said.
