A family member falling ill is a scary time for everyone. And the experience is more harrowing when hospitals come into the picture.

So, to make that difficult time just a little bit easy, Jerome Quadros (58) has started a website that informs about the category-wise availability of beds in reputed hospitals in the city.

The website, https://www.indiahospitalbeds.org/, is free for all and free of formalities like registration.

Quadros, who is due for retirement as deputy GM of a multinational steel company in two months, has kept his venture completely non-commercial and does not accept any sponsors or advertisements on the website.

IT'S FREE: Jerome Quadros says it'll take hospitals five minutes to upload their bed availability on the website.

"Invariably, the need for a hospital bed arises on short notice, making the information on vacant hospital beds vital for patients and their family.

In such a scenario, my website, which was test launched earlier this week, will be a quicker and simpler option.

It's better than calling hospitals individually and seeking information," said Quadros.

The website, which will be fully operational in a couple of months, will require hospitals to upload the availability of vacant beds, using individual passwords a process that Quadros claims takes less than five minutes.

However, He admits that his system could have limitations when it comes to monitoring government hospitals, which cater to large number of casualty cases.

Quadros has no formal education in computers, but he is enchanted by the endless possibilities of the Internet.

Dr Ravi Ramakant, HOD Radiology, KEM Hospital, said, "The accuracy of data that is uploaded is essential, especially when it gives information on ICU beds.

There could be some initial nitty-gritty, which would require scrutiny, but the concept is bound to pick up in the long run."u00a0

Pramod Lele, CEO, Hinduja Hospital, added that this website would help patients and their families in emergency cases.
