Five persons arrested for their alleged role in the gangrape of a 23-year-old US national studying in Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) here have been remanded to judicial custody till May 13.
The five accused are Harshwardan, Jaskar Singh Bullar alias Karan Singh, Anish Borkataki, Kundanraj Norgonain and Dev Cyrus Kulabawala. They were produced before a holiday court in Bhoiwada in south-central Mumbai on Thursday which remanded them to judicial custody.
Another accused Vinamra Soni has already been remanded to police custody till May 3. The five accused were also allowed to speak to their parents for the first time since the incident. The accused were in police custody earlier.
On April 11, the TISS student was allegedly gangraped by six men with whom she had gone to a nightclub and later to a house in suburban Andheri.
Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) reports after testing urine samples of the victim had traced cannabis components indicating that she might have smoked or inhaled it when other were taking the drug on the day of the incident.
Her blood samples also had traces of alcohol, according to the FSL reports.
