Polling figures from the state show that the MNS played party spoiler by eating into the Shiv Sena's vote bank. Is this a pre-cursor to the Assembly polls? We wonder...

Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena spoiled the Shiv Sena's party. The Sena contested 22 seats and won in 11 constituencies, while Raj's MNS secured over 15 lakh votes.

The BJP may not have got the big numbers, but its candidate Gopinath Munde (Beed) emerged with the largest number of votes in the state (5,53,994 votes)

The BSP fielded 48 candidates, but could get only 17,85,643 votes, sending out a clear signal that it will not become a major player in Maharashtra.

The biggest loser in the state is the Samajwadi Party, which contested 14 seats and received just 3,71,200 votes. Surely, the result should put an end to the non-stop bragging by SP stalwarts

Interestingly, the Congress contested 25u00a0 Lok Sabha seats, and bagged 17, with a poll tally of 71,87,838 votes, and emerged as the top pie-grabber in the state.

The NCP won 8 seats and polled 71,31,153 votes, thus securing more votes per candidate. Sharad Pawar and his daughter Supriya Sule emerged victorious with the largest margins.
