A 12-day-old baby, who was being taken to Bangalore for a surgery, died on board a Kingfisher Airlines Mumbai-Bangalore flight here on Tuesday.
The baby, Charu Rawat, was travelling to undergo a surgery at Bangalore when the death occurred, a Kingfisher Airlines spokesperson said.
"This morning as Kingfisher Airlines flight IT 3103 (Mumbai-Bangalore) was taxiing out of Mumbai Airport for Bangalore, the aircraft had to return to the bay to attend to a medical emergency," the spokesperson said.
The cabin crew provided immediate assistance as per procedure and the Captain requested for emergency medical services to be ready on arrival at the bay, he said.
"A MIAL (Mumbai International Airport Limited) doctor accompanied by the airline's doctor boarded the aircraft to examine the baby. But sadly, the doctor declared the baby dead," he said.
The infant was being taken to Bangalore for a surgery, the spokesperson said, adding "the father of the deceased infant was in possession of a 'fit-to-fly' certificate which was produced later by the parents."
