Though marginally, the number of daily Covid-19 infections in Mumbai dropped for another day. The civic body on Friday confirmed 309 more cases and eight fatalities. On Thursday, the city had registered 324 cases and nine deaths. Though cases across the state dropped to 5,539, deaths rose significantly to 187 from 120 the day before.
Mumbai had reported three Covid-19 fatalities on Tuesday and nine on Thursday. Of the eight deaths confirmed on Friday, five patients had comorbidities, seven were senior citizens, one was aged between 40-59 years.
Even the test positivity rate (TPR) in the city reduced, for the second consecutive day, to 0.9 per cent. It was 0.94 per cent on Thursday. The city's recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, after 407 people recovered and were discharged on Friday.
The city had reported the highest number of cases on April 4 11,163, following which the tally started declining. Off late, the number of daily cases has been fluctuating, but not too much. The TPR started falling after May 5, when it was 10.96 per cent.
The doubling rate of infections in the city improved and was 1,631 days on Friday.

After recording a significant dip in daily cases and Covid-19 fatalities on Monday, the state witnessed a rise on Friday with 5,539 new infections. The fatalities rose significantly to 187.
The state's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.1 per cent, and 5,859 people returned home after recovering from the respiratory illness. Currently, the state has 74,483 active cases.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also registered a dip in new cases. According to the state health department's report, 769 new cases were reported in the MMR, including the ones from Mumbai. Raigad reported 122 new Covid-19 cases, Panvel 55, Navi Mumbai 53, Thane 49 and Vasai-Virar 30.
The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 12 more Covid-11 fatalities, with Raigad, Thane region and Thane Municipal Corporation reporting one death each.
