A tree house overlooking the Arabian Sea is coming up near Bandra Fort soon. The BMC got the approval for the project, which is part of the beautification of the suburbs, at the standing committee meeting on Wednesday.

The District Planning Committee (DPC) will fund the project, estimated to cost Rs 1.07 crore. The BMC will award the contract for the construction and maintenance of the tree house for two years. It will be in line with Old Woman's Shoe at Kamala Nehru Park in Malabar Hill. The tree house will be like a tower having a height of a two-storey house. There will be entry and exit points. It will be primarily constructed with wood; cement will be limited only to the foundation.

According to the proposal presented before the standing committee, M/S Virgo Specialities Pvt Ltd will construct the tree house in six months from the date of order, excluding monsoon.

The contract cost of Rs 1.07 crore will include water and other charges, survey of the quality of soil on the site and the preliminary design draft. It will also include structural stability reports after every six months. The contractor will also prepare guidelines for the maintenance after the defect liability period of two years. The contract will be awarded once the BMC receives the fund from the DPC.

"The tree house will be built near the seashore, so checking the soil quality will be of utmost importance. Depending on the report presented by the contractor, we will make a preliminary design that will be drafted for final construction," said a BMC official.

Officials said that many more beautification projects are under consideration across the suburbs.
