COVID-19 cases are rising in the city and state even as government authorities continue to appeal to the citizens to stay indoors and step out only when necessary. The city reported 1,361 new cases on Sunday while the state recorded 11,141. Many citizens continue to flout COVID-19 appropriate behaviour outside their houses.

The total tally of cases in Maharashtra is now 22.19 lakh. Fortunately the mortality is under control, as the COVID-related deaths recorded in the last 24 hours in the state were 38.
To ensure that the situation is again under control in the city, aggressive testing has been begun again. The Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivali Corporations continued to record cases in three digits; 199, 159 and 304 respectively.
The state's recovery rate now stands at 93.17 per cent with 6,013 discharged on Sunday. The total number of active COVID patients in the state is 97,983.
Mumbai's recovery rate stands at 93 per cent while the doubling rate has dropped owing to increase in cases since February to 231 days. The city's overall growth rate stands at 0.30 per cent. The total count of positive cases recorded so far is at 3.33 lakh and the number of tests carried out so far is 34.16 lakh. The active cases now stand at 11,500 in the city.
Till date there have been 52,478 COVID-related deaths across the state. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,222. These deaths are the cases where patients were positive and tested negative but later died due to other complications. The state saw 1.68 crore laboratory samples collected till date since March 2020 out of which 22.19 lakh have tested positive with 13.16 per cent positivity ratio in the state.
As per government data, Mumbai led in the state with 4 deaths reported in a single day. The MMR including Mumbai recorded a total of 8 cases. However, according to BMC data, there were 5 deaths in Mumbai. Civic officials said out of these 5 deaths, 5 patients were suffering from other ailments and 4 were senior citizens.
