Covid-19: Mumbai records second wave’s lowest TPR at 0.53 per cent

For the second consecutive day on Thursday, the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths reported in the city remained the same, at 283 and five, respectively. However, the test positivity rate (TPR) dipped significantly to 0.53 per cent - the lowest in the second wave till now. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) report, a record number of tests (52,482) were done on Thursday. The daily cases in the city had dropped below 200 on August 16, but started rising again soon.

Of the five deaths reported in the city, three patients had comorbidities, four were senior citizens and one was aged between 40 and 59 years. The city's recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent and 203 people were discharged after full recovery on Thursday. The doubling rate dipped marginally to 2,054 days.

The state's COVID-19 cases saw a marginal rise at 5,225, and the fatalities dipped marginally to 154. The state's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.11 per cent and 5,557 were discharged after full recovery on Thursday. The state has 57,579 active cases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a marginal rise in cases on Thursday. As per the state report, 736 cases were reported in the MMR, including the ones in Mumbai. Raigad reported 105 new cases, Navi Mumbai 69, Thane 43, Panvel 48 and Kalyan-Dombivli 65.

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 18 COVID-19 fatalities on Thursday. Kalyan-Dombivli reported six deaths and Raigad, Thane, Panvel and Navi Mumbai registered two deaths each.
