A day after registering a sharp rise in daily COVID-19 cases, Mumbai on Thursday reported fewer than 500 new infections. It also saw a drop in deaths, becoming the city with second highest daily casualties in the state.
Across state, the health department officials confirmed 2,736 new cases of novel Coronavirus and 46 deaths. In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the city reported the highest number of cases at 463, followed by Thane Municipal Corporation at 85, Kalyan-Dombivli Corporation at 66 cases and Navi Mumbai at 64.
Of the 46 COVID-19-related casualties in the state, Pune and Yavatmal led with six deaths each, followed by Mumbai and Pune Municipal Corporation with five each.
Elsewhere in the MMR, there were no deaths. The BMC officials said that out of the five deceased, four patients were suffering from other ailments and four were senior citizens.
The state's recovery rate now stands at 95.71 per cent, with 53,39 patients being discharged across the state on Thursday. Mumbai's recovery rate was at 94 per cent, while the doubling rate improved to 566 days from 563 a day earlier. The city's daily growth rate in the past one week is just 0.12 per cent, as the total count now stands at 3,10,604 cases. The city currently has 5,489 active cases.
The mortality rate in the state was 2.52 per cent till date, with the COVID-19 toll reaching 51,215. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state stood at 1,251. These are cases where patients tested positive and then tested negative, but later died due to other complications. So far, 1.48 crore laboratory samples have been collected, and 20.36 lakh of them have tested positive for COVID-19, with 13.74 per cent positivity ratio.
