Daily infections and test positivity rate in Mumbai slid for the second consecutive day on Friday. At 9 deaths, COVID fatalities went marginally, said the BMC. The city recorded 11,317 new cases with a TPR of 20.6 per cent.
In the third wave, the highest TPR recorded in Mumbai has been 29.9 per cent on January 06. At the peak of the second wave, the highest number of single-day infections had stood at 11,163. Of those who died of the virus, seven comorbidities. While two of them were 40-60 years, the rest were above 60.
The silver lining is that 84 per cent of the patients turning positive on Friday were asymptomatic. The recovery rate improved to 89 per cent, with 22,073 patients being discharged. The doubling rate stood at 39 days.

The state saw a significant dip in the number of cases and deaths on Friday as 43,211 new infections and 19 fatalities were reported across Maharashtra. The state's case-fatality rate continued to dip and was at 0.98 per cent. A total of 33,356 people were discharged during the day. On Friday, the state's active cases stood at 2,61,658.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region registered 22,037 infections. The Thane Municipal Corporation and Navi Mumbai reported 2,058 and 1,746 cases respectively, the highest in MMR after Mumbai. While Panvel saw 1,415 cases, Vasai-Virar had 980 cases and Thane city had 853 cases. Other than Mumbai, the MMR saw 6 deaths. Vasai-Virar and Navi Mumbai saw two deaths each, while Thane and Panvel had one death each.
On Friday, 238 new Omicron infections were reported in the state of which 197 are from Pune Municipal Corporation and two from Mumbai. So far, 1,605 cases of Omicron have been registered of which 859 patients have been discharged.
