The ice cream and finger; The severed digit; The storage unit in Malad
After a human finger was found in a Yummo Ice Cream cone purchased in Malad, the Malad police launched an investigation. The police discovered that an accident had occurred on May 11 the day the cone was manufactured. Omkar Pote, a 24-year-old assistant packing manager at the company, severed his middle finger while working on the fruit feeder machine.
The machine, which is used to crush ingredients such as cashews, almonds, and pistachios for the ice cream, malfunctioned when the lid of the ingredient container fell inside. In an attempt to retrieve it, Pote's middle finger on his right hand was cut off.
Despite this, both the machine operator and company officials allegedly claimed that the finger found in the ice cream cone did not match the severity of Pote's injury. The machine was shut down immediately following the accident. Pote was taken to the hospital, and the machine was cleaned and restarted after removing all ingredients.
To investigate the case, several teams were formed under the guidance of DCP Anand Bhoite of Zone 11 and Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Adane. The teams included API Mahesh Mundhe, Abhinav Pawar, and PSI Shivji Shinde.

The Malad police took blood samples from Pote to match his DNA with the severed finger found in the cone.
